My Secret Life Undercover in the IRA
For over 10 years, I lived a double life. I was a British soldier, but I was also a member of the IRA.
I was born in Northern Ireland, and I grew up in a Catholic family. I joined the British Army when I was 18 years old, but I quickly became disillusioned with the way that they treated the people of Northern Ireland.

In 1972, I was sent to Belfast on a tour of duty. I was shocked by what I saw. The British Army was using excessive force against the civilian population. I saw people being beaten, shot, and killed. I also saw the poverty and deprivation that the people of Northern Ireland were living in.
I couldn't stand to see the way that my people were being treated. I decided to join the IRA. I wanted to fight for the freedom of Northern Ireland.
I was trained in explosives and weapons. I also learned how to carry out surveillance and intelligence gathering. I quickly became a valuable member of the IRA.
I carried out a number of operations for the IRA, including bombings, shootings, and kidnappings. I also worked as a double agent, providing information to the IRA about the activities of the British Army.
My double life was extremely stressful. I was always living in fear of being caught. I had to be careful about who I talked to and what I said. I also had to be prepared to kill or be killed.
In 1983, I was finally caught by the British Army. I was sentenced to life in prison. I served 10 years in prison before I was released on parole.
Since my release from prison, I have spoken out about my experiences in the IRA. I have written a book about my life, and I have given lectures and talks about the conflict in Northern Ireland.
I believe that the conflict in Northern Ireland was a tragedy. I hope that my story can help to shed light on the causes of the conflict, and I hope that it can help to promote peace and reconciliation in Northern Ireland.
